Dear family and friends,
Date: 18 May 2024
Location: Rhu and Shandon Parish Church, followed by a reception across the road at the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club .
We will also be holding a barbecue at the Yacht Club the following day (starting at 12) and we would be delighted if you can join us for that too.
For the time being, as a result of limitations with the amount of people we can have seated at the venue we are planning to make it an adults-only wedding. However, please do let us know if that is likely to cause you big problems and we will be happy to try and figure something out.
Barbecue
We will have a barbecue – also at the reception venue – on Sunday for anyone who wants to come back the day after the wedding itself and catch up with us and other family and friends. Children are more than welcome for it too. It will start from 1200 – we would ask people to arrive roughly between then and 1300. The Yacht Club will be putting on food for everyone and the bar will be open again. As before there should be enough parking at the venue for anyone who wants to come – if not then there will be spaces in nearby streets.
We understand that some people may need to get trains/travel back home that day, so definitely don’t feel like you need to attend. But we’ll really love to have any of you that can join.
Gifts
There is absolutely no obligation to get us a gift – the most important thing is seeing everyone at the wedding in May. At the same time, if you’re particularly keen then we’ve put together this list of things we’d be very grateful to receive. You’re obviously welcome to go away from that list too, if you like!
Getting to Helensburgh
Directions
Driving: It’s about a 45-50 minute drive from Glasgow. Postcode for the church is G84 8NG.
Parking: There will be parking at the RNCYC but please let us know in advance if you would like to use a space. The church is directly across from the venue (5 minutes walk).
Train: There are regular trains from Glasgow Queen Street to Helensburgh, which take approximately 50 minutes.
Bus: We recommend you get a taxi from
Helensburgh to Rhu but there is also a bus service (316 to Garelochead or Coulport) that goes every 30 minutes and takes approximately 10 minutes to get to Rhu.
Accommodation
We would recommend staying in Helensburgh or Rhu as these are most convenient for shops, restaurants and public transport. At the end of the wedding there will be buses or minibuses booked to take guests back to Helensburgh, and dependent on numbers, likely to stretch to Cardross and to Cameron House near Loch Lomond.
We recommend you book early as Helensburgh is a small town.
Hotels
Ardencaple Hotel, Rhu
Riva Boutique Hotel, Helensburgh
Cameron House, Loch Lomond
There are also plenty of airbnbs, holiday lets and worth googling bed and breakfasts in Helensburgh.
Please note we haven’t included Rosslea hotel which is next door to our venue as it is booked out in full for a different wedding on the same day. Hotel rooms may become available nearer the time.
